Our Story, Mission & Values
OUR STORY
Tŷ Cwch means ‘boathouse’ in Welsh, and that’s exactly what it is — a boathouse in Cwmtydu, one of the most beautiful and unspoilt coves on the Ceredigion Heritage Coast. We built it because we love this place. The seals in the bay, the dolphins out in Cardigan Bay, the coast path on the doorstep, the silence. We wanted to share it, without spoiling it. The coastline, wildlife and landscapes that make Cwmtydu so special are under real pressure from climate change So we have tried to create something that sits lightly in the landscape — built from sustainable materials, designed to bring you closer to the nature around you rather than shut it out. The result is a place where families and groups of friends can kick off their boots, breathe in the sea air, and feel properly away from it all. We hope you love it as much as we do. When you stay here, you’re part of that too — choosing a low-carbon holiday that’s kinder to the places and communities you visit.

GREEN TOURISM GOLD
Tŷ Cwch holds Green Tourism Gold certification, recognising our dedication to environmentally, socially, culturally, and economically sustainable practices
We use renewable energy sources to power our facilities with all LED lighting, AAA+ appliances, and an ASHP to reduce our annual carron impact and reduce our carbon footprint.
Efficient water systems with showers and low flush toilets help us preserve this precious resource in our coastal environment.
Comprehensive recycling and composting programmes implemented by the Local Authority minimise our environmental impact.
Reusing materials and supporting local suppliers reduces manufacuring and and transport emmissions, lowers the embodied energy in making the building, and strengthens our community
CWMTYDU
Cwmtydu is a hidden gem on the Cardigan Heritage Coast, a secluded cove where a freshwater stream meets the sea. This magical location has been cherished by locals for generations and remains unspoilt by commercial development.
Positioned between the villages of Llangrannog and New Quay, our boathouse sits directly on the Welsh Coast Path, offering unparalleled access to some of Britain’s most spectacular coastal walking routes.
Cardigan Bay has the largest population of bottlenose dolphins in Europe, seals come on to Cwmtydu beach in the Autumn to have their pups, there’s an abundance of sea birds nesting on the cliffs, (lesser black backed gulls, oyster catchers, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes, fulmers, shags, and peregrine falcons), and the next valley is home to one of the few sites for the pearl-bordered fritillary butterfly in Wales.
